Mahanoy Tunnel, East Portal
The 2024 Lehigh Valley NRHS Explorer operated over the Reading & Northern Railroad from Reading Outer Station in Reading, Pennsylvania to Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania on April 20, 2024. This annual charter takes RDCs to parts of the R&N system that have not been visited by passengers in several decades. This trip covered a former Reading Railroad line that still carries a considerable amount of coal.
