Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road - Siemens SC42-DM Transfer

On the night of Wednesday, December 3, 2025, to Thursday, December 4, 2025, MTA Metro-North Railroad brought Siemens SC42-DM MNCW 307 to New Rochelle, New York with MNCW 111 (BL20GHM). MTA Long Island Rail Road came over from Queens with an Amtrak pilot crew and LI 160 & 168 (MP15AC). This was the first time in approximately 8 years that an LIRR locomotive has been in Westchester County, once a routine sight while MNR electric MUs were being transferred to the Arch Street shop for PTC installation. The LIRR crew brought the SC42-DM across the Hell Gate Bridge to Hunterspoint Avenue Station, where they rearranged the locomotives to have one at each end for the trip to Jamaica and ultimately the Morris Park Yard/Shops. In the coming weeks, the SC42-DM will be used for clearance testing around the system. The LIRR has placed a substantial order for the SC42-DM, which will not only replace the DE30/DM30 class but also eventually increase the size of the locomotive fleet.
