The 2025 MTA Metro-North Railroad Open House (Part 1 - New Motive Power). On Saturday, October 4, 2025, MTA Metro-North Railroad held an Open House event at the recently constructed New Haven Rail Yard Component Change Out Shop (CCO Building) in New Haven. Connecticut for the public. As part of the event, a variety of equipment from across the system, as well as a few museum pieces, were gathered together. There were also displays of various aspects of the railroad from different departments and offices. The Siemens SC42-DM is the dual-mode (diesel/third rail electric) locomotive of the future, and presently, two are in revenue service. They have also been ordered for Amtrak Empire Service and the Long Island Railroad. This event allowed the public the opportunity to tour the engineer's cab. For comparison with older generations of motive power, it was set up at the east end of the building, next to GE P-32AC-DM MNCW 222 (New Haven Heritage) and EMD FL-9 CTDX 2006, visiting from The Danbury Railway Museum.

Though similar to the all diesel design of the SC-44 and ALC-42, these locomotives also had to go to the testing center in Pueblo, Colorado for full evaluation before delivery to Metro-North. The locomotives are much quieter than their predecessors and also significantly more fuel efficient while providing more power. While the (present) GE P32AC-DM fleet changes from electric to diesel mode around the Harlem-125 Street Station, MNR has stated that this locomotive is designed to operate on third rail to the Croton Harmon area, where electrification ends.
