Riding The HH Shuttle (Court Street to Hoyt-Schermerhorn)

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, and Sunday, July 5, 2026, the New York Transit Museum and MTA NYCT Subway operated museum specials between the Court Street and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets stations in Brooklyn, New York, replicating the route of the HH Shuttle. Passengers remained on board and were not permitted to exit at Hoyt-Schermerhorn. These trips celebrated the museum's 50th-anniversary weekend. The equipment consisted of vintage 99-year-old Triplex-D cars 6095 and 6112, marking the first time they had operated together in about a decade. Unlike modern subway cars, the lights on a Triplex-D car go dark when the train is between sections of the third rail. Also, the conductor's position for controlling the doors is between the cars, not inside.

On July 4, 1976, the vision of a man named Don Harold became a reality when the New York Transit Exhibit opened. During what was initially planned as a three-month exhibit, visitors were able to walk around the former Court Street Station in Brooklyn, New York, to see vintage subway cars and artifacts. It proved so popular that it never closed, and here we are 50 years later celebrating the anniversary.

The "HH" (or "Court Street Shuttle") operated from April 9, 1936, to June 1, 1946, when it was closed due to low ridership. This line has since been used for transferring equipment to the Transit Museum and for filming movies and TV shows, including "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three," "Crocodile Dundee II," "Coming to America," and "Law & Order."

To showcase the full experience, this video features both exterior footage and the onboard 'railfan window' view.
