Acela 2, Day 1. On Thursday, August 28, 2025, Amtrak introduced the Alstom Acela 2 to the revenue riding public. The culmination of many years of work debuted on Train 2153 (TS 20/AMTK 2130-2135) and Train 2154 (TS 21 AMTK 2122-2129). For the moment, these two will cycle and return respectively as Trains 2170 and 2171 on weekdays. Amongst other things, the new Acela offers increased speeds and increased capacity, and their entry begins to signal the exit of the legacy Acelas.
