Amtrak Empire Service, ANMTK 704 with Blue Logo, Penn Station, New York, New York
Check out my nose job. Amtrak 704 (P32AC-DM, Phase III) is one of the 18 P32s that Amtrak maintains for access to the third rail territories of New York City, seen here in Penn Station, Manhattan, New York on Train 290 on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. For the upcoming summer’s diversion to Grand Central Terminal, the decision was made to cut an emergency hatch into the nose of the engine, matching them to MTA Metro-North Railroad’s specifications. Their third rail shoes will also be changed from overrunning to underrunning before the service changes begin.
