The Case Of The Disappeared Caboose. For many years, including May 29, 2016, when this photo was captured, a caboose labeled "Ulster & Delaware 642" sat near Washington Avenue in Kingston, New York. It served as a Tourism Information Center, greeting visitors who exited the nearby New York State Thruway. Rumors abound about the origin of the caboose, but many suggest that it belonged to the former New York Central Railroad. Not long after this date, the caboose was gone, purportedly removed to an Ulster County storage facility ahead of planned construction. However, as of 2026, nothing has been built on this site.
