British Airways Concorde G-BOAD, USS Intrepid, New York, New York
Concorde G-BOAD was the fourth production Concorde off the line in Filton, near Bristol in the United Kingdom, and spent its entire career flying for British Airways. In 2003, the aircraft flew to JFK Airport in New York City and was retired. It was then moved to Floyd Bennett Field by barge and subsequently to the Intrepid on October 20th, 2008. It has been on display and open to the public until recently in 2023. On Wednesday, August 9, 2023, it was moved from Pier 86 to the barge by a Weeks crane. It would then be moved down the Hudson River and up to the Brooklyn Navy Yard by tug 'Stephanie Dann", where it will undergo repainting and restoration before returning to Pier 86 at the USS Intrepid.
The SST (Super Sonic Transport) program created 20 airframes, ultimately 7 flew each for British Airways and Air France. 6 were for non-commercial use. The plane covered the 3,450 miles from New York's JFK Airport to London Heathrow in under 3 hours, but produced a "sonic boom" that limited it to flying over open water. In 2003, all of the commercial airframes were retired.
