6 Years Ago Today.....Last Run To The Rock. MTA New York City Transit Subway car 4826 led the last Far Rockaway/Mott Avenue-bound run of the R-42s on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. These cars, which first entered service in 1969, had just passed 50 years in service on the NYC subway and yielded to the R-179s. That day, this 10-car set of R-42s was operated for a fare-included public excursion sponsored by the New York Transit Museum, giving fans a chance to take a final ride on these St. Louis Car Company products. The train is seen approaching the Beach-60th Street (formerly Straiton Avenue) Station in Arverne, Queens, New York.
