The MTA New York City Transit Subway/New York Transit Museum said farewell to the R-42s on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. These cars, which first entered service in 1969, just passed fifty in service years on the NYC subway now yield to the R-179s. After a ceremony at the Transit Museum, a special was operated for the public from Euclid Avenue to Far Rockaway to 207 Street, and finally back to Euclid Avenue.
