Norfolk Southern Train 11R, Delanson, New York

Mains In The News. After a bit of rearranging in Schenectady, Norfolk Southern SD60E 6983 (ex-NS 6665, SD60) lead train 11R (Mechanicville, NY [PAS]-East Binghamton, NY, PAS AYMO, CP 945) on Sunday, June 6, 2021. As the train passes CPF-499 in Delanson, New York, there are newsworthy details to take note of for current merger discussions. The train is running on the former Delaware & Hudson Railway Main Line, where it connects with both Pan Am Railways and Canadian Pacific. On the right is the D&H "Albany Main", currently leased to and served by SMS Lines. The sign indicates "Norfolk Southern Maint Limit", but under the CSX/NS/Pan Am STB filings, this trackage would be returned to NS and upgraded to carry a daily intermodal train (9,000 foot maximum) that will continue over the connection with CSX at Voorheesville, New York. The name of the village of Delanson itself carries railroad significance, a contraction of DELaware ANd hudSON.
