Georges Creek Railroad, WM 303, Barton, Maryland
Starry night. Georges Creek Railway 303 (ex-LIRR 607, nee WM 303, Alco FA2) sits in Westernport, Maryland on the night of Tuesday, November 21, 2019. An exposure of over 2 minutes brings in the stars in this rural area. Originally built for the Western Maryland Railway in 1951, it was brought to the Long Island Rail Road to be a "power pack" for passenger trains from the early 1970s until returned to the Maryland by the Georges Creek Railway. Through freight on the GSCK has been dormant for over two years, and in February of 2020, the owners filed with the STB for exemption and abandonment. This move will perhaps sadly signal the official end of service on the line, which began in 1853.
