Golden's Deli, Staten Island, New York

Golden's Deli. Former Independent System R-6-3 car 978 (American Car and Foundry Company, 1935) could be found at 2845 Richmond Avenue inside Golden's Deli at the Staten Island Mall from 1985 until January 2012, when the deli closed. This car is one of the few New York City subway cars that have ever been open to the public in NYC that were not owned by the MTA or the New York Transit Museum at the time. As seen during this visit on September 10, 2009, the restaurant was fully transportation-themed, including this car and a replica of the Grand Central Terminal ceiling in the dining room. Because it was pouring rain outside, it was a quiet night at the restaurant, providing plenty of room to take pictures. When the deli closed in 2012, the car was temporarily brought to a holding yard in Brooklyn before being purchased by a private owner in Warwick, New York.
