IRM PV Villa Real, Raleigh, North Carolina

IRM PV Villa Real, Raleigh, North Carolina

The Restoration Was Real. Eleven years ago today, on the morning of July 25, 2015, the Pullman Villa Real was sitting on a track on the outer edge of the CSX Yard in Raleigh, North Carolina. Built in 1911, the car spent time with various lines, including the Pennsylvania Railroad, Wabash (in Mexico), and the Norfolk and Western. Al Sauer purchased it in 1995 and began restoring it from its post-1957 work-train setup back to its 1930s luxury configuration. From 1995 until it was donated and moved to the Illinois Railway Museum in 2022, the car was expertly restored through Mr. Sauer's efforts, both interior and exterior.
