Vernon Diamond. The sun was setting in Vernon, California on
April 12, 2022 when the Los Angeles Junction Railway was returning to the yard, crossing over the Union Pacific line at South Downey Road and Charter Street. A nose on view shows the yellow bonnet on BNSF 3189 (née-ATSF 3836, EMD, GP50, 4/1981) as the sun sets in the background. For over 20 years, LAJ has been a wholly owned subsidiary of BNSF Railway but serves both Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF as a switching railroad in the Vernon/Los Angeles, California area. Although the majority of freight that moves across the LAJ is carload freight for local customers it does move anything necessary for either carrier.
