Manor Delicatessen, Queens, New York
112 Years Old, Perhaps Forever....Manor Delicatessen
Manor Delicatessen opened in what was then called Brooklyn Manor in 1914. This is a true 'German Deli' of NYC, with staples such as German Potato Salad, sausages, stuffed cabbage, and potato pancakes. But they also offer 'New York Style' Hot Pastrami and they are well known for their chicken cutlets and their neon sign under the Jamaica Elevated. The other word that people use to describe Manor is clean, and the place is spotless from floor to ceiling.
When I spoke with owner Mark Gallagher, he told me that he has been the owner since 1999, but has been working here since he was 15. The son of the previous owner, Helmuth Bolowsky, was also on hand this week serving alongside Mark.
Mark cited declining foot traffic in the neighborhood as one of the factors in their closure, but is keeping open the option for someone to purchase the deli, and/or continue as a catering business. As of now, they will be closing the restaurant on Friday, August 21, 2026, so stop in for one last sandwich if you can.
