MTA Metro-North Railroad, MNCW 107 & 103, Talmadge Hill, New Canaan, Connecticut

On the afternoon of Sunday, June 4, 2023, Metropolitan Transportation Authority/MTA Metro-North Railroad GP35Rs 107 (née-SOO 728, GP35, 5/1965) and 103 (ex-Conrail 2251, exx-PC 2251, née-PRR 2310, 11/1964) were returning from dropping off stone cars in New Canaan when they crossed over the Merritt Parkway in Talmadge Hill, New Canaan, Connecticut while heading to New Haven. The narrow window around the bridge helps to frame the matched pair very well while obscuring the fact that they have no cars. The New Canaan Branch is presently out of service while it undergoes major rehabilitation. This 7.9 mile single track line is still very much like an older interurban, winding through the woods with a significant number of grade crossings, and the appearance of diesel engines from the work fleet here is a rare event.
