Former Staten Island Ferry John F. Kennedy In Manhattan
September 17, 2026

The MV John F. Kennedy was moved to Pier 17 in Manhattan this week to become the "Snapple Island Ferry" for a night as part of the Snapple Island Ferry Show, a comedy event. Tickets were offered to the public for free, and the show included many headline stars. The boat is not presently operable, and was towed from Staten Island.

From 1965 through 2021, it served the commuters of the Staten Island Ferry. The Kennedy was purchased in early 2022 by Pete Davidson, Colin Jost, and club owner Paul Italia for $280,100. This is the second event that it has been moved for since leaving municipal ownership. Railfans will often note that its 4 GM-EMD 567C16 diesel engines generate 6,500 hp. It is the last surviving member of its class, as The Gov. Herbert H. Lehman and American Legion have already been scrapped.
