Like It Was Always There. On the evening of September 7, 2023, NJ Transit (NJT) Train 5451 to Raritan, New Jersey, was led by NJTR 4109 (née CNJ 3677, GP40-P, EMD, 10/1968). During its Central Railroad of New Jersey (CNJ) career, it served both the Raritan Valley and North Jersey Coast Lines, frequently traveling through this very track at Newark Penn Station in Newark, New Jersey. After wearing a few different paint jobs over the next 5 decades, in 2019, NJT made this unit the first of its authentic heritage unit in its fleet by repainting it back to its "as delivered" paint scheme. Visits to the Newark Division are unusual and treasured by photographers as the locomotive, like most of NJT's EMD fleet, is normally assigned to the Hoboken Division.
