NJ Transit TGIV, Howells, New York

The NJ Transit TGIV Inspects The Southern Tier. On Monday, August 20, 2025, NJ Transit's Track Geometry Inspection Vehicle (TGIV) inspected the tracks of the Southern Tier/Port Jervis Line between Suffern, New York and Sparrow Bush, New York. This offered the rare opportunity to see NJ Transit equipment at CP WX in Sparrow Bush, an area that is seldom visited by anything other than New York, Susquehanna, and Western Railway Trains. The Harsco-built self-propelled rail-bound vehicle measures track geometry every foot at up to 50 MPH, utilizing a non-contact system. The car regularly inspects the entire NJT rail system, including the River Line, and this data is used to assess track conditions and plan work projects.
