UP Union Pacific 4006, The National Museum Of Transportation, St. Louis, Missiouri
Got 80 Gallons? On July 14, 2009, Union Pacific Railroad "Big Boy" 4006 (4-8-8-4, Alco, 1941) was sitting on a display track at The National Museum of Tranportation in St. Louis, Missouri. This is one of 25 that were made over 2 orders, and one of 8 that remain today. The museum has just announced a campaign to power wash and cosmetically restore the veteran steam engine, and amongst the items it will require is 80 gallons of paint. While in service it traveled more than one million miles, the most of any Big Boy.
