MTA NYCT Subway 9308, Brooklyn, New York
World's Fair Leader. As part of an equipment move, MTA NYCT 9308 (R-33S) was added to the 8-car R-32 Movie Train on Monday, January 29, 2024. This car is one of 40 that were ordered as single units to be added to the 400 R-36 'married pairs' to make 11-car trains on the Flushing Line for the 1964-1965 World's Fair. Painted robin's egg blue and white, they were a departure from the mostly darker paint colors that had been employed by the subway to that point. The 600 R-32s took this change a step further, the first full order (non-experimental) of stainless steel cars. There are several R-33S cars in the New York Transit Museum collection, 9306 is in its original paint scheme and was not rebuilt, 9307 and 9308 were both repainted in WF colors after a lengthy career in various paint schemes including the famous Gunn red 'redbird'.
