Norfolk Southern's Delaware & Hudson Unit On The D&H For The First Time On Friday, August 8, 2025, Norfolk Southern's Delaware & Hudson Heritage Unit led on the D&H for the first time. Having arrived in Binghamton on K60, it would lead Train K31 (East Yard - Binghamton, NY-Saratoga Springs, NY [CPKC])/CP 929 (Saratoga Springs, NY [NS]-Rouses Point, NY [CN]) and on to Canada. This unit, the 22nd, 24th or 25th NS heritage unit depending on how one counts, was released mid-2025. Operational rights over the former D&H are shared on various parts by CP & NS, and in practice, the trains change crews in Saratoga Springs. But the power will run through to the train's destination, resulting in daily NS locomotive led trains on the CP operated portion. "The Bridge Line to New England and Canada" was founded as the Delaware & Hudson Canal Company in 1823. On August 8, 1829, the D&H's "Stourbridge Lion" was the first locomotive to run on rails in the United States. Encompassing over 1,500 miles, it would be independent until the 1960s, when a series of owners/operators, including Dereco/N&W, Guilford, Conrail, and NYS&W/D&O would succeed each other, ultimately yielding to the present arrangement between Canadian Pacific & Norfolk Southern.
