CSX Q008, NS 8098, Bear Mountain, New York

Pure Magic. On August 7, 2014, CSX Q008 was led by Norfolk Southern Corp 8098 (Conrail Heritage, ES44AC) as it traveled down the River Sub, itself once a Conrail line when it was the "big railroad". Today Conrail exists as a Class III shortline, switching and delivering the loads of its co-owner NS and CSX trains in Northern New Jersey, Southern New Jersey-Phildaelphia, PA and the Detroit, MI area. As the train passes under the Bear Mountain Bridge into Rockland County, New York, it is not so difficult to imagine the Conrail wide cab GEs that worked this area prior to its 1999 purchase and division. The Heritage Unit program that Norfolk Southern created in 2012 has allowed another generation of rail employees and railfans to literally see what how the past of their lines developed into present day operations .
