GMTX 173, NYCT, Howland Hook, Staten Island, New York
Orange And Blue. GMTX 173 (née-Longview, Portland & Northern Railway [LPN] 130, SW 1500, 12/1969) spent the first 30 or so years of it life operating on a shortline switching between an International Paper plant and the Southern Pacific interchange just outside of Gardiner, Oregon. After serving in a number of different roles on various railroads, it came to the Howland Hook facility of New York Container Terminal Express Rail in 2021 to replace sidelined Process Locomotive PL1500-4RS CLCX 2058, which appears to be permanently out of service. On the morning of Thursday, January 12, 2023, the EMD is seen dropping off loaded refuse cars at the Conrail Shared Assets Arlington Yard in Staten Island, New York. These cars and 53 foot cargo containers are normally all of the freight variety that one will see on a daily basis in this side of the yard.
