Damaged R142 Cars Transferred On The B Division. On the night of October 31, 2025, MTA NYCT Subway transferred three of the R142 cars that were part of an incident on the 4 Line on October 19, 2025, during which a semi-permanent five-car set 'pulled apart', from Concourse Subway Yard to 207 Street Yard. Throughout this move, the 'blind' (non-cab) end of 1216 was exposed, something that would not happen in revenue service. While on October 19, the emergency brakes did apply properly and the train came to a stop, the train was evacuated, and the cars were removed from service and brought to Concourse Yard due to its proximity to the scene. The other portion of this train was transferred on a previous day. Both the locomotives and the R142s are built to the 9-foot wide clearance of the A Division/IRT (number lines), leaving a noticeable platform gap when moving through the 10-foot wide clearance the B Division/BMT-IND (letter lines) The power for this move train was a pair of brand new Wabtec R255 hybrid battery-diesel locomotives. It was followed by R43 OL060 for the southbound move, and after reversing in Manhattan, followed the same locomotive to 207 Street Yard, where the cars will be further evaluated.
