Pan Am SD40-2 Locomotives on NYS&W SU99. On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 14, 2025, New York, Susquehanna, and Western Railway (NYSW) SU99 departed Ridgefield Park, New Jersey for Binghamton, New York with a "new-to-the-railroad' pair of SD40-2s. The GATX units were once operated on the Quebec, North Shore, and Labrador Railway, before eventually making their way to Pan Am Railways using the "MEC" (Maine Central Railroad) reporting marks. These units are equipped with PTC, but not cab signals, and so cannot lead on the portion of the trip that crosses NJ Transit trackage. The NYSW continues to expand its roster, though it only operates its road train bi-weekly.
