Private Varnish And A Meet In Riverdale. On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Amtrak 49 (Lake Shore Limited) was led by AMTK 9707 (P42C, Phase VII) and 706 (P32AC-DM), shown here in Riverdale, Bronx, New York. The train had a passing meet with MTA Metro-North Railroad Train 2740 with SC42-DM MNCW 312. On the rear of the Lake Shore Limited was OmnTRAX ‘Savannah Sunrise’ (OMLX 800576, née-Canadian National Railway, PV-79-E Business Car, National Steel Car, 1959), making its Hudson Line post-restoration debut.

While researching the history of this car, I saw the name ‘Canadian Sunrise’ that it once wore for Hudson Bay Railway, and it rang a bell. Combing through the archives led to discovering these slides from December 7, 1996, in St. Louis, Missouri, near the Amtrak Station. In November 1996, OmniTRAX expanded its operations into Canada by acquiring the Hudson Bay Railway network, which included then HBRY 800576. OmniTRAX later sold the railway to Arctic Gateway Group, but retained the ‘Canadian Sunrise’.
