The New Bridge With The "New" Steam Engine. The Reading And Northern Railroad is a consolidation of parts of several other railroads into a modern system. In February of 2020, the Reading And Northern opened a new Lehigh River Bridge in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania that eliminated a lot of run time from the operation of its then signature road train, NRFF (North Reading Fast Freight, North Reading, PA-Pittston, PA). On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the R&N operated a test of the "newest" addition to its active fleet, former Reading Railroad T-1 2102 (4-8-4) using 50 coal hoppers. This engine had a colorful career, working in various revenue services for the Reading including the famed "Iron Horse Rambles" and later found its way to the Reading and Northern Railroad - Passenger. Sidelined from 1991-2016, it recently had its restoration completed and is projected to begin in tourist passenger service in a month's time. The long consist is seen crossing the Lehigh River with RBMN 2103 (GP38-2) working the Jim Thorpe "Gorge" Train in the background.
