First of Their Kind. On October 9, 2021, Rockhill Trolley Museum's San Diego MTS 1019 (Siemens–Duewag U2) and Pop-Up Metro 2300002 (Viva Rail Class 230) sit side by side in front of the storage facility in Orbisonia, Pennsylvania. When San Diego’s selected and purchased the U2 class, it was the beginning of a new era of Light Rail Vehicles in the United States, and after decades of good service, they have been retired and found their way to museums. The Railroad Development Corporation hopes that the Viva Rail cars will similarly introduce a new wave of transit in the United States. Behind the photographer, a blue flag is up to create the temporal separation that allows these vehicles to share tracks for operation.
