The Herzog MPM. On the evening of September 1, 2020, Herzog Multi-Purpose Machine (MPM) HZGX 188/18800 was staged for the night on a Union Pacific Railroad siding in Boone, Colorado. This custom-built trainset fulfills various Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) and related functions, utilizing interchangeable attachments on its railcar-mounted mechanical arm. According to Herzog, the unit can either operate independently at track speed or be coupled into a standard train consist.
