11 Years Ago Today....Cheesesteak Spam Cans

By this date, of the Chicago Transit Authority "Spam Can" cars that were purchased to provide service SEPTA, only 482 & 483 (ex-CTA, 6089-6090) remained on the property. Delays in the N5 order for the Norristown High Speed Line were significant, and the Stratford and Bullet cars were worn out. SEPTA then added 2 new classes of cars for the Route 100 - these married pair St. Louis Car Company built CTA cars, and single-unit Budd built Market-Frankord that were remounted on trucks from PATH K Cars. Out of service since the early 1990s, the cars were sort of hidden at the SEPTA 69th Street Shop/Yard, and no one would talk about why they were still there or if they had any plans. On the night of October 19, 2019, the departed for the Craggy Mountain Line in Asheville, North Carolina, where Rocky will be glad to give you a tour and take you for a ride. Today, besides an Alco, cabooses, and trolley cars, you can also see New York City Transit R-6-3 #983 and R-32s 3432-3433 during your visit.
