"Pioneer" by the Freedom Tower, New York Harbor, New York, NY
Good Evening From New York Harbor.....A Clash Of Eras
"Marc", you said, "enough pizza places and trains and buses and baseball.....bring on the ships!!!!!"
"'Pioneer' was built in Pennsylvania in 1885 to carry sand and heavy cargoes along the Delaware River. Unlike almost all American cargo sloops and schooners that were made of wood, Pioneer was constructed with a wrought iron hull because she was built in what was then the nation’s center for iron shipbuilding. Today, she is the sole American merchant sailing vessel with an iron hull." - South Street Seaport
A trip on this ship is actually fairly reasonably priced: https://southstreetseaportmuseum.org/1885-schooner-pioneer/
It made for a strange but beautiful sight against the modern NYC skyline this evening as I traveled on the Staten Island Ferry "Dorothy Day" from St. George in Richmond County to Whitehall in New York County.
Have a good night wherever you are.
