MTA Staten Island Railway 821 (Alco S2), Ballpark, Staten Island, New York
Staten Island Subway? On the Electric Railroaders’ Association “Farewell To The Alcos” trip on the Staten Island Railway on October 25, 2008, we made a trip to Staten Island’s underground station at Ballpark. Alco S2 821 (ex-USAX 7108, 7/1943) would lead another Alco and 2 R44S/ME-2 cars toward Tottenville. The station was built on the former Baltimore and Ohio RR North Shore Line and was only open during Staten Island Yankees games, but was officially closed to even this traffic on June 18, 2010 due to budget cuts (this was opening day, the last train stopped there in September of 2009). The Alco would go on to yet another career, working on the Saratoga & North Creek Railway in D&H paint.
