SMS Line 2003, Woodstown Central, Pilesgrove, New Jersey
Woodstown Central. The unusual story of the rehabilitation of the Salem Branch in southern New Jersey is that it has been largely due to this passenger tourist train, with significant increase in allowable speeds and brush clearing coming when SMS assumed the lease from Salem County. The Woodstown Central Railroad is operated by SMS Rail Lines. The train has been getting longer as their car shop finishes each project, so what started with Reading caboose 92587 has continued with CNJ coaches 1312 "Woodstown" and 1319 "Oldman Creeek". With SLRS GP38-3 2003 (née-PRSL 2003, GP38, EMD, 12/1967) powering the consist, the train now includes a trifecta of southern New Jersey railroads. Passengers have a variety of experiences to choose from depending upon the day, this train on December 16, 2023 was themed for the holiday season. With maximum speeds on the line being raised, more car restorations in the works, and a steam locomotive getting closer to full operational status, the future looks bright at the Woodstown Central.
