Due to the 99 problems affecting the R179s, we welcome back the R42s. Five eight-car sets of 1969 St. Louis built R42s were recalled from retirement to active service after the Bombardier R179s were found to have door mechanism problems. On the afternoon of January 23, 2020, a pair signed up each for the "J" and "Z" pass on the Williamsburg Bridge, over a thousand feet from where the photographer is standing.
