MTA NYCT Subway R-11 8013, Brooklyn, New York
Ahead Of Its Time. MTA NYCT Subway R-11 8013 is a unique survivor in the New York Transit Museum collection. When it was built by Budd in 1949, it was a revolutionary design. The car body was made of stainless steel, with features including underseat heaters and "precipitron" sterilizing lamps to promote cleanliness. While only 10 were constructed, many of its ideas would carry on in the design of future car orders. It is seen on display at the Court Street Station on March 19, 2016 during a special event to honor the contributions of several long time volunteers.
