Goodbye, Max Type 1. On Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Portland, Oregon, TriMet held an event to bid farewell to its legendary Type 1 Light Rail Vehicles. In 1986, 26 Bombardier-built Type 1 cars began service, the first electric traction in Portland since the abandonment of the streetcar system in 1950. Today, Portland boasts a robust variety of trolley, light rail, and diesel rail options for commuters, supplementing its bus system. Car 101, the first of this series, was donated to the Oregon Electric Railway Museum in Brooks, Oregon, in 2025. The Type 1 fleet is being replaced by Siemens S700-model Type 6 light rail vehicles. And so, a quick look back to August 31, 2008, for some Type 1 shots.
