An Event In Adair. On Thursday, August 12, 2021, Union Pacific Railroad's locomotive 4014 (a 1941 Alco 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy") passed through Adair, Oklahoma (population 732 as of 2020), while traveling south from Parsons, Kansas, to Fort Worth, Texas. Union Pacific restored and returned 4014 to service in May 2019 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad's completion. Since then, UP has operated the locomotive across its own system—as well as on a recent trip over the Norfolk Southern—not only for display, but also to haul freight and passenger specials.
