Another Lengthened Lake Shore. On the afternoon of Saturday, March 7, 2026, the normal consist of the Amtrak Lake Shore Limited (Train 49) had a few additions out of New York Penn Station. Amtrak P32s AMTK 703 and 715 were joined by deadheading P42DC AMTK 145 (40th Ann, Phase III), an AmFleet I coach, and a Viewliner baggage car to Albany. The notable attraction is AMTK 145, the only original 40th Anniversary unit that is still in service as a locomotive. As it passes through the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York, this view shows the red, white, and blue stripe on all three locomotives.

At ALB, the train will be wyed (turned around), and two new locomotives will replace this power for the rest of the trip to Chicago, Illinois. This power arrangement and the reverse consist have been standard for the past several months during construction on the East River Tubes.
