Happy 55th Anniversary, Amtrak. On Friday, August 26, 2022, the Amtrak California Zephyr was powered exclusively by Siemens ALC-42s for the first time. AMTK 301 (First Day, 50th Anniversary) and 309 (Phase VII) were actually on line while AMTK 313 and 314 were being delivered from the Siemens plant and en route to Wilmington, Delaware, for acceptance testing. The 125 engines from the total order will be the new face of Amtrak's long-distance trains. AMTK 301 is a heritage unit wearing the “Day One” paint scheme - a black livery with the iconic arrow logo originally applied only to AMTK 4316 (ex-PC 4316, née-PRR 5716, E8A, EMD, 10/1952). This scheme represented the new organization for the railroad’s first day of operation on May 1, 1971, following the passage and implementation of the Rail Passenger Service Act of 1970 (also known as the "Railpax" legislation).
