Amtrak Train 20 Crescent AMTK 159, New Orleans, Louisiana

Crescent Under The Cantilever. On September 4, 2019, Amtrak Train 20 (Crescent) departed on time from the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in Louisiana. It is shown here approaching Elysian Fields Avenue as it passes under the sole remaining legacy cantilever signal on this line west of Irondale, Alabama, bathed in sharp morning light. At the time, the Crescent departed at 7:00 AM; however, in June 2021, the departure time was pushed to after 9:00 AM, meaning the sun would fall more directly on the front of the train today. In the background, a sign for the popular chicken restaurant chain Popeyes rises above the scene. Alvin C. Copeland Sr. founded Popeyes in New Orleans in 1972, naming it after Popeye Doyle from the film "The French Connection".
