Anniversary Train. On July 16, 2011, the Amtrak 40th Anniversary Exhibit Train visited New Haven, Connecticut, sitting on the platform for the weekend for visitors to enjoy. The train spent several years traveling across the United States as a "museum on wheels" to allow visitors to interpret the modern history of long distance passenger rail travel. The locomotives and cars were all painted in matching "Phase III", easily Amtrak's most recognizable paint scheme. Since the train made its final appearance in 2016, parts of it have been moved into storage or deaccessioned. It may ultimately be that AMTK 406 is the last active part of the train, but has not operated since 2021.
