Sunday Snow Day: Empire Service. Winter Storm Fern arrived in the New York Metropolitan area on Sunday, January 25, 2026, bringing temperatures in the teens and notable snowfall. Amtrak Empire Service operated its now standard double ended consists due to East River Tunnel Construction throughout the day.
