Sunday Snow Day: Empire Service. Winter Storm Fern arrived in the New York Metropolitan area on Sunday, January 25, 2026, bringing temperatures in the teens and notable snowfall. Amtrak Empire Service operated its now standard double ended consists due to East River Tunnel Construction through out the day. The 50th Anniversary "Midnight Blue" painted AMTK 100 made an appearance in the afternoon, a striking contrast to the snow.
