Black River & Western Railroad, BRW 60, Ringoes, New Jersey

60 For 60! It was 60 years ago today on May 17, 1965, that the Black River & Western Railroad was born. Black River & Western Railroad 60 (née-Great Western 60, 2-8-0 "Consolidation", Alco, 1937) was the power for the Volunteer Railroaders - VRA photo charter on June 25, 2016. The train was posed by the Ringoes, New Jersey depot that night with supplemental lighting as part of the day-long event. Proceeds from the charter were donated to support the non-profit Black River Railroad Historical Trust's work to extend the existing track back to Lambertville, New Jersey, where passenger tourist trains last operated in the late 1990s. This group holds a special place in my heart as it is one of the first tourist railroads I ever visited in what I remember as the "big letters" era when "BRW" was painted taller than me on the side of the locomotives, so please join me in wishing the BRW a happy birthday today.
