Duesenberg. Chicago Transit Authority Car 5001 was 1 of 2 constructed by Pullman Standard Car Company in 1947 (2 similar were built by St. Louis Car Company) that incorporated PCC all electric design into a three-section articulated aluminum body and a steel reinforced frame. While the order was originally going to be much larger, ultimately these 4 were the only cars ordered of this design and would operate but also serve as test cars for the later 6000 series. They would be relegated to Skokie Swift service for the majority of their career. These cars were called "Duesenbergs" by some, after the car company known for its large luxury automobiles, or "Jitterbugs" by others. This car was retired by CTA in 1985 and came to Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin, Illinois in 1986, where it is seen sitting at the Castlemuir Station on July 12, 2009. While not presently operable, it is on the list for future restoration.
