Norfolk Southern 1616 and Norfolk Southern 1066 (New York Central), Spencer, NC Transportation Museum

Norfolk Southern SD70ACe 1066 was painted in New York Central "lightning stripes" to recognize its inclusion in the formation of NS. During the day, the units were taken around the grounds, allowing for shots passing some of the historic engines on display. Original Norfolk Southern Baldwin AS416 1616 could have been relegated to the unknown when it was sold to Peabody Coal Company in Lentzburg, IL after Southern bought the NS in 1974, but becoming the name of the new railroad a few years later made it an important artifact and it was donated to the NCTM in 1981.
