Be Happy At 60. On March 29, 2019, NJTR GP40PH-2B 4207 led Train 55 to Port Jervis, New York, seen here passing through the rock cut in Tuxedo, New York. This unit is not only the oldest on NJ Transit's (NJT) revenue roster, but the oldest passenger locomotive in use by a commuter agency in the United States. Built by EMD in October, 1965, it was delivered as New York Central 3005 (GP40). Later, it would work for Penn Central and Conrail, and ultimately was rebuilt with Head End Power and purchased by NJT. Like the other 20 or so HEP-equipped GP40 variants owned by NJT, it can usually be found serving the commuters on lines operating out of Hoboken or Atlantic City on any given day. On July 9, 2025, it was featured in the New York Times in an article discussing the state of American commuter railroading.
