Quartet. A four pack of @mta NYCT Subway R-156s (MP8AC-3, MPI) and 2 R-141 flat cars are seen crossing the Bronx River approaching the Elder Avenue Station on the 6/Pelham Line in the Bronx, New York on Thursday, November 11, 2021, with OL 931 leading. The train came from Fresh Pond Yard on the M Line with 2 of the R-156 bringing 2 out of service diesels to the shop at Westchester Yard/Pelham Diesel. This large span is the crest of a significant grade coming out of the subway. The MTA NYCT Subway’s non-revenue fleet rosters 90 diesel engines, plus 10 more that are being converted from electric to diesel and 18 electric box motors that are used for work projects and refuse collection around the system. The diesels are used to transport manpower and equipment in areas where third rail power is turned off while work is being performed.
